VLCT launched its Local Government Quilt Project in the summer of 2005. The project celebrated the Town Fair 2005 theme of "Cities and Towns - Working Together, Making a Difference."
To date, 53 Vermont municipalities have sent in handcrafted squares for the Local Government Quilt. They are: Arlington, Bakersfield, Barre Town, Bennington, Benson, Bethel, Bridgewater, Bridport, Brookfield, Cabot, Charlotte, Concord, Danville, Dover, Duxbury, Enosburg, Franklin, Greensboro, Guildhall, Halifax, Hardwick, Hartford, Killington, Manchester, Middlebury, Milton, Montgomery, Mt. Tabor, No. Hero, Orange, Pawlet, Pomfret, Reading, Richford, Richmond, Ripton, Roxbury, Rupert, Rutland City, Ryegate, Shoreham, Strafford, Thetford, Topsham, W. Windsor, Waltham, Warren, Waterford, Williamstown, Wilmington, Winhall, Woodstock, and Worcester.
The first 47 squares, plus a VLCT square, have been bound into a stunning quilt, which Governor Douglas unveiled at Town Fair 2005. The quilt now hangs in the boardroom of the VLCT office in Montpelier.
VLCT will collect squares until all Vermont municipalities are represented on a series of Vermont Local Government Quilts. Please consider sending in your municipality's 10"x10" square with an 8"x8" design. For more information about the project, please contact VLCT Claims Representative (and quilter extraordinaire) Patricia Boyle.
