FTC Delays Red Flag Rules Enforcement Again and Again and ...
On October 30, 2009, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced that it will yet again delay enforcement of the “Red Flags Rule.”
Affected municipalities now have until June 1, 2010 to develop and implement a theft identity prevention program. To read the FTC’s latest press release in its entirety, go online to www.ftc.gov/opa/2009/10/redflags.shtm. The FTC has developed a template for those entities that have a low risk of identity theft, and that is available at www.ftc.gov/redflagsrule.
The VLCT Model Identity Theft Prevention Policy and the VLCT Identity Theft Prevention Memo of April 14 are also available online. For more information, contact Garrett Baxter, VLCT Staff Attorney, at 1-800-649-7915 or gbaxter@vlct.org.
