Whether they’re running at large or nipping the neighbors, dogs can get into all sorts of trouble at any time of year, which translates into all sorts of headaches for town officials. Drafting effective ordinances and ensuring proper enforcement are big priorities for municipalities to help manage dog related issues and conflicts.  

In this training, attendees will join two of VLCT's own to learn about effective dog control regulations and how to properly handle potential violations of those regulations. 

Part 1: Effective Dog Control Regulations 
Carl Andeer, VLCT MAC Staff Attorney II, will review the legal framework and elements effective local dog control regulations and how MAC’s model Dog Control Ordinance can help your town manage dogs running at large and other issues, You will also leave with helpful resources you can use to assist you with local dog control issues. A live Q&A will follow the presentation.  

Part 2: Dog Control Violations & Proper Enforcement   
Trevor Whipple, VLCT-PACIF Law Enforcement Consultant and former Chief of Police, will give you an overview of effective and responsible oversight of dog control and violation enforcement. He will also cover the basics of ordinance enforcement in the Judicial Bureau and answer your questions during a live Q&A.
