Join VLCT's Sarah Macy and fellow treasurers, bookkeepers, accountants, finance officers, finance directors on Zoom each month to learn a new aspect of municipal accounting! 

Thursday, February 23, 2023 10 am - 12 pm: Governmental Accounting and the GASB 34 Financial Reporting Model

Sarah Macy will continue the discussion of governmental accounting fundamentals by examining the financial reporting model for governments along with what makes governmental accounting different. Join your peers to learn about modified accrual accounting and the current resources measurement focus, and how these differ from accrual accounting and the economic resources measurement focus used in businesses.  

We will build on our January discussion of fund accounting by examining the GASB 34 financial reporting model. We encourage attendees to, prior to this training, read the executive summary of the GASB white paper "Why Governmental Accounting Is – and Should Be – Different."

Thursday, March 23, 2023 10am - 12 pm: Categories of Fund Balance

Take a deep dive into the GASB Statement 54 categories of fund balance, learning  

  • how to differentiate between the categories 
  • which categories might be seen in the different funds (discussed in January) 
  • which categories might be seen in the different financial statements (discussed in February).   


Billing will be finalized monthly, with discounts applied at the third training for each quarter if individuals attend all three. $20 per session, or $50 for three.
