This training will provide an overview of the roles and responsibilities different municipal officials play in complying with municipal tree law and a new guide written by VLCT MAC attorneys. Selectboard members, tree wardens, highway staff, and other staff are encouraged to attend and learn more about their duties related to public shade tree management.

For background on Vermont tree law and the recent legislative changes of Act 171, 2020, please view our past training available here. Staff from the Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program will provide updates regarding current shade tree preservation plan efforts in partner municipalities and the processes that municipal staff and volunteers are employing to consider additional shade trees designations in public ways and places.

Presenters: Carl Andeer, VLCT Municipal Assistance Center Staff Attorney II; Joanne Garton, Technical Assistance Coordinator, Vermont Urban & Community Forestry Program, Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation
