You don’t need to be a cybersecurity expert to make your computer systems more secure. Interestingly, the people using your municipalities’ computers or connected to your systems are the biggest risk to security. Poor email password construction, lack of physical security (such as, post-its with passwords on computer screens), unsecured internet connections, clicking on phishing email links or unsecured internet sites result in the vast majority of system breaches. System intrusions can result in millions of dollars in litigation costs, erosion of public trust, and unplanned costs for services and equipment.

The good news is that you can start your own office security awareness campaign with these free downloadable posters and toolkits from the US Department of Homeland Security, the US Department of Energy, and the Center for Cybersecurity.
