VLCT and the National League of Cities are offering free online-virtual diversity, equity and inclusion training to VLCT members. The three-part training provides members with the basics of NLC’s Race, Equity, and Leadership (R.E.A.L.) training program aimed at eliminating racial disparities, healing racial divisions and building more equitable communities. Online trainings are scheduled for June 21st and June 28th from 3:30 to 5:00, and July 14th from 3:00 to 4:30. Members who participate should plan to attend all three trainings.
This June 21st webinar is part of REAL’s 100 series that focuses on normalizing a shared understanding on the history of institutional and structural racism in America. The content provides leaders with a shared language for racial equity, examines existing racial disparities in cities and the implication for advancing racial equity, and introduce important concepts and tools for organizing and operationalizing racial equity. This June 28th webinar focuses on providing an introduction on how to organize and operationalize for racial equity. It reviews the topical issues identified in the REAL 100 webinar. Attendees will learn racial equity tools and concepts that can be applied to determine an approach for advancing racial equity in their city – including learning the basic principles of how to develop a racial equity plan.
