The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation has launched a Land and Water Conservation Fund Program (LWCF) round for communities in Vermont. On this webpage, you will find everything a town or other municipal entity needs to apply for a 50-50 federal LWCF grant to acquire or develop a municipally-owned property for public outdoor recreation. Entities should consider projects that are larger in scale since the match requirement is high, and the permanent encumbrance and maintenance responsibilities are permanent.
Congress, meanwhile, recently permanently authorized and fully funded LWCF via the Great American Outdoors Act. As an original co-sponsor of the Great American Outdoors Act, Senator Bernie Sanders was pleased to see this bill pass into law and help fund important local recreation projects.
