The Vermont Municipal Clerks’ and Treasurers’ Association (VMCTA) is proud to announce the opening of the 2026 Awards Program. This year’s program introduces significant updates designed to modernize the nomination process and expand recognition for the dedicated public servants who keep Vermont’s local governments running smoothly.
Expanding the Honors: Introducing the "Rookie" and "Lifetime Achievement" Awards
In addition to the prestigious Clerk of the Year and Treasurer of the Year honors, the VMCTA is excited to debut two new award categories:
- The Rookie of the Year Award: Designed to recognize rising stars who have served in their roles for fewer than three years but have already demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to their community.
- The Lifetime Achievement Award: A premier honor reserved for long-serving members who have dedicated their careers to municipal excellence, showing a sustained legacy of integrity and mentorship.
Modernized Digital Nomination Process
To make it easier than ever for colleagues, Selectboard members, and town managers to advocate for their local officials, the VMCTA has launched new digital nomination forms. While paper submissions remain available, the new online portal allows for a streamlined, paperless submission process, ensuring that the hard work of Vermont’s clerks and treasurers can be highlighted with just a few clicks.
Submission Deadline
All nominations for the 2026 award cycle must be submitted by August 1, 2026.
The VMCTA encourages all community members and municipal staff to take a moment to nominate those who have gone above and beyond. Awards will be presented during the VMCTA Annual Meeting this fall, celebrating the excellence, transparency, and service that define Vermont’s municipal culture.
