Federal Funding Assistance - Transportation

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. (It isn't just a movie.)

Across this country, one in five miles of highways and major roads are in poor condition. Tens of thousands of bridges are rated the same.  Bridges in poor condition in rural communities, like we have here in Vermont, are especially at risk since often a single bridge may carry not only daily traffic but also provide passage for loaded emergency service vehicles.

America's public transit infrastructure has faced decades of deferred maintenance - the estimated repair backlog is $105 billion!  This equates to more than 24,000 buses and vans, 5,000 rail cars, 200 passenger stations, 300 maintenance facilities and thousands of miles of track, guideway, signals, and power systems in need of repair or replacement.

Add to the crumbling roads, bridges and public transit all the driving people living in rural areas must do to reach necessary good and services in their gasoline fueled cars.  The conversion to electric vehicles is happening but the electric vehicle charging equipment infrastructure must be in place and keep pace to match the rising sales of electric vehicles.  And can the grid take it?  We are making progress with smart reinvestments and new investments but not fast enough and our ambitious Climate Action Plan goals are looming.  Everyone has a part to play.  What will yours be?  Not sure...we can help!
