(48 hours after petitions returned) Last day for filing of supplementary petitions if at least five percent of the municipality's voters signed the original petition.
If the 48 hours to submit a supplemental petition falls on either Saturday, January 17th or Sunday, January 18th, the deadline to file is automatically extended to the next day that is not a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday. Because Monday, January 19th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day (a legal holiday under both State and federal law), the deadline to file a supplemental petition in these instances will be Tuesday, January 20th. 17 V.S.A. § 2103(13). Again, please note that this extension will only apply if the 48 hours to file the supplementary petition falls on either Saturday, January 17th or Sunday, January 18th.
