Cities and towns in Vermont have until June 1, 206, to submit updated Local Emergency Management Plans (LEMP) to their VEM Regional Coordinator.

As municipalities consider sheltering in their plan, they should work with the Agency of Human Services, American Red Cross, and community-based emergency or charitable food providers, to assess the facility and the facility’s potential operations, including the characteristics of the surrounding area during an all-hazards event, multiple routes of travel and possible hazards that could prevent access to the shelter, and the need for immediate and sustained access to food and water for individuals using the shelter. Resources are available to support training and exercising shelters - please reach out to your Regional Coordinator for additional information.

It is best practice for anyone with a role in an LEMP to participate in writing it, so please include broad representation from the whole community in updating this plan. VEM Regional Coordinators are available to sit down with your team to work through plan updates, so please reach out if you would like support.
