State Finalizes Road Salt Contracts with Pricing for Some Towns

October 28, 2025

The State of Vermont has begun issuing long-awaitied road salt contracts that include provisions allowing municipalities to purchase off the new contracts, and, in some instances, specific pricing for municipalities that opted in earlier this year.

As of October 27, two new road salt contracts were available on the Current Statewide Contracts webpage of the Vermont Department of Buildings and General Services (BGS) website. However, as VLCT shared earlier this year, the state issued a request for proposals for new salt contracts for every transportation district this year, meaning additional contracts will be finalized and published in the near future. The two contracts available on the state website include town-specific pricing from Eastern Salt to Halifax, Rupert, Wallingford, Windsor, West Windsor, Royalton, Strafford, Pomfret, and Newbury. American Rock Salt did not offer any town-specific pricing, although its contract does allow use by municipalities.

VLCT members are encouraged to visit the Highway Equipment and Materials section of the state contracts webpage now to view the currently available "Road Salt suppliers” contracts. BGS will update the webpage as more contracts are finalized. While these contracts are valid for only a limited number of Vermont towns at this time, the pricing may be of interest to you.
