The Vermont League of Cities and Towns (VLCT) and the Vermont School Boards Association (VSBA) are accepting letters of interest from Vermont municipal and school governance body members and administrators interested in serving on the Board of Trustees of the Vermont Municipal Employees’ Retirement System (VMERS).
To be eligible for appointment, candidates must be members of municipal governance body or a municipal or school supervisor as defined in 21 V.S.A. § 1502 (13). Ideal candidates would include any member of a municipal governance body that participates in VMERS (school boards, selectboards, city councils, or trustees) or a manager of a municipality (including schools) that participates in VMERS.
To apply for consideration, send a letter of interest and a resume jointly addressed to VLCT and VBSA to tbrady@vlct.org by Monday, November 30. VLCT and VBSA intend to select three candidates to forward to the governor’s office, in accordance with 24 VSA § 5062(a)(1)(D). The governor will select a candidate to fill the current vacancy, with a term expiring in June of 2028.
VMERS is the public pension plan provided by the State of Vermont for participating municipalities’ employees, including some employees of Vermont schools. The VMERS Board of Trustees serve as fiduciaries of VMERS and are responsible for governance of operations, policies and administration. The Trustees meet between six and 10 times a year. Stipends are available for those not employed by a municipality. For more information, visit https://www.vermonttreasurer.gov/vmers/vmers-board-trustees.
