Is SAM.gov Asking for a NAICS Code During Your Registration Renewal?

If SAM.gov asks for a NAICS code when you renew your municipality's registration, you've inadvertently chosen to renew as a business rather than a municipality. 

How Do I Fix the Renewal?

You'll need to delete the renewal and start the renewal process again. 

When you reach the question that asks if you want to register for "Financial Assistance Awards" or "All Awards", chose "Financial Assistance Awards". This renews your municipality's registration for financial assistance, or grants and loans, only. Then finish the renewal process by following SAM.gov's instructions.

• A NAICS (pronounced NAKES) code, or North American Industry Classification System code, is a six-digit number used to classify businesses by industry. Federal agencies use these codes to collect and analyze economic data. 92 is the two-digit classification for Public Administration.
• The NAICS code for local government is 921120. This classifies your local government as a "Legislative Bodies", which is how most Vermont municipalities classify their registrations to present the whole of their business type - general operation of local government. This code was entered when the municipality first registered for its SAM.gov account. Unlike businesses, the local government NAICS code doesn't change.
