Australian ballot voting is a method of voting at local elections recognized by Vermont general law. Under current law, only the municipality’s voters may vote to allow the switch to the Australian ballot system. For an overview and information about legal requirements, please review the info sheet below. We recommend reviewing the VLCT Quick Guide to Vermont Town Meeting prior to reviewing this info sheet both for context and more general information about town meeting.

If you have additional questions about town meeting requirements, please view our Town Meeting homepage or contact the staff at the VLCT Municipal Assistance Center. Members may reach us at info@vlct.org or 1-800-649-7915 for assistance. While every effort is made to provide members with the most accurate information possible, these documents do not constitute legal advice.
