The ARPA Closeout Process Has Started (for some)....*ACTION REQUIRED*

December 29, 2025

Treasury has begun the early closeout process for ARPA recipients. Only recipients specifically invited by Treasury may close out their ARPA award. Many Vermont municipalities have already received an email from Treasury with this invitation and successfully closed out their awards.  Yours could be next!

If you had fully expended your ARPA funds by March 31, 2025 and reported such during the required April 2025 reporting, you may have been asked the question “Are you ready to closeout?” before certifying and submitting your report.  You may have selected "YES" but this didn’t officially closeout your award - it just signaled to Treasury that you were “ready” when that time came.  Keep your eye on your inbox for an email from "SLFRF@treasury.gov <slfrf@treasury.gov>" with the subject line "Subject: *ACTION REQUIRED* Closeout Instructions for the State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (SLFRF), U.S. Department of the Treasury" (the full text of this email is HERE.) If you receive this email, then your time for closeout has arrived!  It is not SPAM.  Do not delete it.

This email contains the “Closeout How To Guide."  It does a good job of walking through the screens you will need to follow to get to the end of the road of your ARPA journey.  Many towns have received this same message and were able to follow the instructions for a successful solo ARPA closeout flight.  Sign into the portal (https://portal.treasury.gov/compliance), give the Guide a whirl and if you get stuck, don’t hesitate to give us a holler (kbuckley@vlct.org).
