As cyber threats continue to evolve, local and state governments must strengthen their digital defenses to protect sensitive data, maintain public trust, and ensure operational resilience. In support of the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP), Vermont's municipalities are eligible for three practical and impactful initiatives designed to help government entities meet today’s cybersecurity challenges without breaking their budgets or overwhelming their staff.

What three cybersecurity initiatives can municipalities access?

1. CompTIA Security+ Certification Training

Equip your workforce and not just your IT team with essential cybersecurity knowledge. The CompTIA Security+ certification training empowers public employees to identify threats, understand best practices, and comply with regulatory standards like CJIS and HIPAA. This federally funded program builds cyber awareness across your entire organization. [more info]

2. Implementing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Prevent unauthorized access and data breaches with one of the simplest yet most effective security upgrades: Multi-Factor Authentication. We’ll help your municipality adopt MFA solutions that are easy to use, cost-effective, and aligned with government compliance requirements. Real-world case studies show that MFA could have drastically reduced the impact of past cyberattacks on municipalities. [more info]

3. Migrating to a .gov Domain

A .gov domain isn’t just a digital address, it’s a badge of credibility, trust, and security. Migrating your web and email systems to .gov improves search visibility, reduces phishing risk, and aligns with federal cybersecurity mandates. Our implementation team guides you through the application, technical transition, and communication rollout to make the switch seamless. [more info]
