New Grant for Timber in Transportation Infrastructure Projects

The Northern Borders Regional Commission (NBRC) announce a new Timber in Transit grant program. This program funds transportation infrastructure projects that utilize wood products and advanced wood materials. 

Both applied research and demonstration projects that showcase the suitability of such materials to transportation and transportation adjacent infrastructure are eligible. NRBC will fund feasibility studies and implementation projects, such as: 

  • state or regional inventory assessments of the suitability of wood components to address needed transportation infrastructure improvements and/or new construction.
  • architectural and engineering designs, cost analyses, and permitting necessary for implementation of transportation infrastructure projects.
  • transportation infrastructure projects which utilize commercialized wood products and advanced wood materials to address climate adaptive transportation improvements.
  • design and construction of pilot and demonstration projects that showcase the capabilities and benefits of utilizing advanced wood materials in transportation infrastructure; and transportation-adjacent structures that utilize advanced wood materials.
Details
  • Feasibility project awards are $250,000 to $1 million. Implementation project awards are $1 million to $5 million. If applying for both, the award maximum is $5 million.
  • Match varies based on the service area level of distress.
  • NRBC is offering two grant cycles:
    • Pre-Application (Required) 03/15/24; Application (By Invitation) 05/03/24
    • Pre-Application (Required) 09/06/24; Application (By Invitation) 10/18/24
  • Submission of a Project Interest Form is recommended in advance of submitting a Pre-Application.
