PACIF’s on-site loss control services have been temporarily suspended for several months due to the pandemic. The rollout of the vaccines is a light at the end of the tunnel, and we are all hoping to regain normalcy as the year progresses. In the meantime, I want to remind all PACIF members that the loss control team can provide a majority of its services virtually and our knowledgeable and professional consultants are always available to assist you. I encourage you to contact your loss control consultant at any time.
The core function of the loss control team is to identify PACIF members’ risks and help to prioritize and implement best practices to reduce each member's potential for loss. Wade Masure, Larry Smith, and I can provide guidance on a multitude of topics, including:
- safety and health compliance (VOSHA)
- drug and alcohol testing program compliance for commercial motor vehicle operators (FMCSA)
- playground safety
- best practices for managing workers’ compensation costs
- liability risk management in matters such as contracts for service, recreation programs, facility rentals, employing staff, managing staff, public safety services, and more
- thorough analysis of your claim history and loss trends to develop specific guidance that can help you prevent future incidents.
We have already begun contacting members proactively to identify risk management goals and needs for 2021. If you haven’t been contacted, you can either wait to be, or contact your consultant directly. Contact information for your assigned consultant can be found on this territory map.
Additionally, members have access to a new learning management system: PACIF Learn. This system replaces the PACIF Online University and includes substantially more courses as well as the ability to document external learning and certifications, assign courses to employees and track their progress, and create in-house trainings. Although we find in-person learning to be more interactive and effective, online training can be a suitable replacement while gathering in groups is not possible, and it allows learners to take the training at a time and place suitable for them and their employer. PACIF Learn is available to all PACIF member employees as part of your membership. We encourage you to take advantage of this free training.
We hope that during the second half of this year we can resume on-site visits to conduct routine hazard identification surveys and provide in-person training.
