Dear VLCT Members,
Did VLCT help you effectively run your municipality in 2025? We offered more than 100 educational and networking events, training more than 5,100 attendees; provided legal, operational, and risk management support more than 11,000 times; and expanded our library of hundreds of role-specific online resources with dozens of new additions, drawing more than half a million pageviews during the year. That’s on top of administering a $30 million insurance program covering nearly every city and town in Vermont. I hope you have noticed that VLCT has assembled the strongest group of municipal experts in our history, with a mix of institutional knowledge, lived experience, and expertise ready to help you make your municipality thrive.
Every VLCT member renewed their membership in 2025, demonstrating the continued value VLCT membership offers municipalities of every size. We continue to seek non-dues revenue, including sponsorships, grants, and partnerships, to expand services without increasing the pressure on your already tight budgets. In 2025 this enabled us to expand our financial trainings and launch a program to help municipalities access state housing infrastructure funding.
I estimate there are about 5,000 elected and appointed municipal officials in Vermont, a complex network of brilliant, dedicated and tired people keeping one of the world’s most successful democracies in operation. Thanks to the stewardship of the VLCT Board of Directors, the dedicated staff that keep this place running, and the 397 members, including all 247 Vermont cities and towns and 140 other municipal entities, those 5,000 municipal officials have a team of professionals standing by to take some of the weight off of their shoulders.
Our work in 2025 not only responded to your call but also helped us build an organization ready to withstand the challenges of the future.
Until next time,
Ted Brady
Executive Director
