VLCT Policy Regarding Filing of Amicus Briefs

While VLCT generally does not intervene in specific lawsuits, the League occasionally submits or joins in amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs with the approval of the VLCT Board of Directors. Submitting or joining in an amicus brief will only be considered at the appellate (supreme court) level when the case involves an important issue of municipal law, policy, or administration and/or has the potential to affect a significant portion of the VLCT membership. This policy is intended to clarify the process for determining whether a case warrants submission of an amicus brief.
